Paddle Keuka 5 returns this weekend on August 4th

The Finger Lakes Museum & Aquarium (FLM&A) announces the third annual Paddle Keuka 5K to be held Saturday, Aug. 4. “The past two years have been splashing successes with kayakers and canoeists attending from all over the Finger Lakes region and many prominent area wineries, restaurants and businesses joining in as sponsors,” says executive director, Natalie Payne. “The race is open to canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards, and this year the FLM&A will be offering two divisions of racers — unlimited and recreational — to attract even more attendees and maintaining the tagline of truly being a paddling event for everyone.”

The recreational category is for fun, and is open to the novice paddler and less experienced racer, with boats up to 17 feet in length. The unlimited category is for the more experienced racer, with boats in excess of 17 feet in length. Multiple medal categories will be awarded. All who register by July 31 will receive a race t-shirt and a chance to win a $250 L.L. Bean Gift Certificate.

Mother and daughter paddlers, Pat and Erin Rafalowski, have participated in the last two Paddle Keuka 5K races. Pat says, “What a fun event, what a great way to start the weekend! For the third year in a row I am registered in the Paddle Keuka 5K race. I love to see the museum’s progress, very nice event and a great excuse to paddle for a place that will be a source of pride to our area for many years to come.” Erin continues, “I have never paddled in such a large group before and it’s quite fun to see so many kayaks scattered across the lake. Participants and staff were all very friendly and I am happy to support the museum’s vision for facilitating outdoor learning opportunities.”

Several sponsor levels are available for businesses, supporters, fellow adventure seekers, water lovers, or any Finger Lakes enthusiast who wants more exposure for themselves or their business. Sponsoring the Paddle Keuka 5K is an opportunity to meet like-minded businesses and individuals, as well as support something bigger – the creation of a place that inspires appreciation and stewardship of the cultural heritage and ecological evolution of the vast and beautiful Finger Lakes region. The FLM&A is grateful for the two lead sponsors of the 2018 Paddle Keuka 5K: Life in the Finger Lakes Magazine and L.L.Bean.
