On Friday at 10:22 am the Oaks Corners Fire Department and Phelps Ambulance were dispatched to New York State Thruway Exit 42 for a reported tanker truck rollover with injuries.
Initial reports indicated that a fuel tanker had rolled over and was smoking.
Assistant Chief Zachery Rey arrived on-scene within minutes and reported a working truck fire in a body of water. He requested a full response from the Phelps Fire Department. Not knowing what type of fluid was leaking from the tank, he also started tankers from the North Side, Junius, & Marbletown Fire Departments.
After locating and interviewing the driver it was determine that the liquid leaking from the tank was not fuel and the tanker response was reduced.
The truck landed in a creek and absorbent booms were deployed to contain fluids leaking from the truck.
The patient was transported to the hospital by Phelps Ambulance. The North Side Fire Department provided standby coverage for Oaks Corners. Oaks Corners was also assisted on-scene by the Ontario & Seneca County Emergency Management Offices, the Ontario County Sheriffs Office, the New York State Police, the New York State Thruway Authority, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
