Ontario County D.A. appoints special prosecutor in case of bicyclist hit

Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts has appointed a special prosecutor to oversee the case involving a Victor man accused of hitting a bicyclist with his car last week.

Christopher Catt, 26, is accused of running into a bicyclist in the crosswalk along South Main Street in Canandaigua on August 1. Catt was allegedly on his cell phone when he hit the woman on her bicycle.

The bicyclist, 32-year-old Sarah Thompson, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. She has a broken ankle and hand, staples in her head, stitches on her face and a number of other facial injuries and was released from the hospital.

The D.A.’s Office filed the order Friday to appoint Niagara County District Attorney Caroline Wojtaszek as a special prosecutor.

Catt serves as the chief of staff to New York State Senator Pamela Helming (R-54). He also worked for Collins’ office from January 2015 to September 2017.
