Woman rescued from Ithaca Gorge

One woman is recovering after she fell into a gorge in Six Mile Creek just below the 60 foot dam in the Town of Ithaca.

Tompkins County Dispatch received a 911 call just before 8:00 pm about a female who fell about 30 feet down off a gorge trial.

The Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance were sent to the area to rescue her.
When they arrived — they found a woman who had hit her head and and was unable to walk.

The Ithaca Fire department says crews at scene used a rope system to lower themselves down to the victim in the gorge and began to treat her injuries.
Officials say the trail was extremely narrow, slick, and hazardous — add it was one of the most challenging in some time.
Crews also say darkness made it difficult to carry her out of the gorge.

When the victim was finally removed from the gorge — she was driven by ambulance to a nearby helicopter and airlifted to the Guthrie Hospital.
