Major flooding shuts down roads in Schuyler County (full coverage)

A state of emergency has been declared in Schuyler County due to flooding from extreme rainfall overnight into this morning.

The following roads are closed and impassable due to damage:

Shumway Road from State Route 414 to Satterly Hill Road; Dugue Road between Round School House & Fausold Rds; Covert Road from Satterly Hill to State Route 414; Robertson Road bridge is out; Peach Orchard Road bottom is flooded; Lake Street bottom is flooded; Seneca Road at Cooks Cemetery to Vesa; Updyke Road West from Black Road to State Route 227; Rose Lane multiple driveways out & shoulders washed; Tichenor Road from Red Newt Winery to Round School House Road; Texas Hollow Road from State Route 79 south trees down; Bassett Road Bridge is under water; Matthews Road from Bassett Rd to Satterly Hill Rd; Cass Road from west end to County Road 8; Bergen Road from Havens Rd to Newtown Rd.

Many other roads have shoulders washed and damaged.

Authorities in Schuyler County report that Hector officials say that they are unable to pump water at this time (2:50 pm), due to a major water main break on State Route 414 near Club Seneca. “Bottled water will be available sometime later today at the Hector & Burdett Fire Houses and the Town Hall,” officials said in a statement.

The Red Cross has opened up a shelter at Watkins Glen Central High School for those in need of assistance.

Schuyler Hospital has closed all primary care centers and outpatient clinics for Tuesday. For any emergent health issues, residents are asked to visit the Emergency Room or call 911.

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department is urging that residents do not call 911 for non-emergencies. They are handling numerous calls related to the flooding throughout the center portion of the county.

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for Southern Schuyler until 4:15 p.m.
