Competing in her first full distance triathlon, Kerzia Marchant of Liverpool broke the all-time course record for both sexes with a 10:33:36 in the Full Steel Peasantman Triathlon held in the Penn Yan area Aug. 19.
The Full Steel Distance Triathlon begins with a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 116-mile bike route and a 26.2-mile run.
Husband and wife duo David and Jennie Hansen of Rochester both won the overall Half Steel Distance titles. Jennie (former Ironman Lake Placid champ) broke the women’s course record with a 4:46:20. David finished in 4:38:59.
The Half Steel event begins with a 1.2-mile swim followed by a 58-mile bike route and a 13.1-mile run.
The Peasantman attracted 196 individual competitors and five relay teams competing in the Full Steel Triathlon, Half Steel Triathlon, Full and Half Steel Aquabikes, Intermediate (1-mile swim, 29-mile bike, 6.55-mile run) and Sprint (.5 mile swim, 14.5-mile bike, 3.1-mile run) events.
Top local finishers were David Bradshaw of Rushville, who finished fifth in the Intermediate, first in his class, at 2:41.22; and Kati Vanetten of Penn Yan, who finished 45th in the Intermediate at 4:53.54. There were 49 Intermediate competitors.
