Red Cross receives $15k gift from Corning Incorporated Foundation

The American Red Cross is proud to announce it received a gift of $15,000 from the Corning Incorporated Foundation to support Disaster Relief in light of recent flooding in the region.

“I extend our sincere gratitude to the Corning Foundation for their generosity and compassion shown to the families we serve,” said Finger Lakes Chapter Executive Director Brian McConnell.

The Red Cross mobilized immediately to provide emergency assistance for families impacted by flooding in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, opening six shelters in the hardest hit areas. Volunteers have also distributed relief supplies such as cleaning supplies, comfort kits, food and bottled water while also providing emotional support, casework and other services.

Last year, the Finger Lakes Chapter responded to 81 local disaster incidents, most of them home fires, to assist 107 families. Red Cross assistance typically includes funding for temporary housing, food, and clothing as needed, and specially-trained Disaster Mental Health volunteers are available to help those affected deal with the emotional aspect of their disaster. Affected families then meet with caseworkers in the following days to work on a long-term recovery plan.

The Red Cross depends on the generous support of the American public to fulfill its crucial mission.
