No injuries after crash, fire on State Route 96

Deputies say an 18-year-old Waterloo resident was issued tickets following a pair of accidents on Tuesday.

Around 8:12 pm deputies responded to 1072 State Route 96 in Waterloo for a reported two car accident with injuries. Upon arrival it was determined that Karen A. Lavoski, 44, of Clifton Springs was traveling north when her SUV was rear ended by 18-year-old Nathan Stenberg, of Waterloo.

Both vehicles crossed the southbound lane after the crash, and struck a drainage ditch before coming to rest in a nearby yard.

Deputies say Stenberg’s vehicle then caught fire, which resulted in the Waterloo Fire Department being called to the scene. North Seneca Ambulance also responded to the scene.

Both Lavoski or Stenberg refused treatment.

Deputies say both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, and that a second accident is under investigation by the Waterloo Police Department, which had taken place moments before the two-vehicle accident on State Route 96.

Stenberg was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, and reckless driving. He was issued tickets and will answer the charges at a later date.
