Seneca County reaches tentative contract agreements with two unions

Tentative multi-year contract agreements have been reached between Seneca County and two of its employee labor unions.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Employees Association ratified a three-year agreement while Local 850 of the Civil Service Employees Association ratified a four-year contract. Both will come before the Human Resources and Government Operations Committee of the Board of Supervisors tonight for a vote.

If approved, the contracts would go before the full board for final approval Sept. 11. Both unions have contracts that expire Dec. 31 and the new pacts will go into effect, if finalized, on Jan. 1.

The SCSEA contract calls for 2 percent raises for 2019-21, plus step increases. If no step increase is called for, the salary increase will be 3.5 percent each of the three years.

The union represents 75 employees of the Sheriff’s Office and the 911 Department. Those positions include an addictions counselor, civil clerk, clerk, cook, correction lieutenant, correction officer, dispatcher, licensed practical nurse, senior correction officer, senior dispatcher, senior mental health clinic therapist, staff resources assistant II and typist.

The union ratified the contract by a vote of 51-13 over the past weekend.

The CSEA has 250 members, and they ratified the contract Aug. 23 by a vote of 130 to 18.

Members would receive a 2.5 percent wage hike in 2019 and 3 percent raises in 2020, ‘21 and ‘22.
