MacKenzie-Childs, the home furnishings company known for its whimsical designs, has acquired the business of Skaneateles-based ornament designer Patience Brewster.
Aurora-based MacKenzie-Childs said Tuesday that Brewster will become a member of its creative team, supporting the design and development of products for what will be called the Patience Brewster by MacKenzie-Childs collection.
Brewster, an artist and former children's book illustrator, designs colorful Christmas and other seasonal ornaments featuring amusing characters. Her products are made by hand, mostly in the Philippines, she said in a 2015 interview.
"The whimsical nature of the collection folds so naturally into our brand, and it will be so much fun having these characters to include in our seasonal and holiday stories," MacKenzie-Childs creative director and Chief Brand Officer Rebecca Proctor said Tuesday. "Both companies love happy, beautiful things that are made with care by hand, and we enjoy the idea of producing things that you can continue to love for a very long time."
She said the idea of combining the two companies came about 18 months ago when she met Brewster for the first time.
