21-year-old airlifted after serious three-car accident in Canandaigua

Deputies say that around 4:08 pm first responders were called to the intersection of County Road 28 and Emerson Road in the Town of Canandaigua for a crash with serious injuries – and entrapment.

Investigation determined that 34-year-old Eric Rivas, of Rochester was operating a Chrysler minivan south on County Road 28 with one passenger – identified as Alec J. Brown, 21, of Canandaigua – when he reduced speed and was rear-ended by a Ford Taurus.

That vehicle, operated by John P. Schreiber, 51, of Williamson. The impact caused one of the vehicles to flip and come to rest on its top. It struck a third vehicle – operated by Kevin Coates, 60, of Weedsport.

Deputies say Brown had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital with suspected head and neck injuries.

He’s listed in stable condition.

Caotes was uninjured and Schreiber and his two passengers went by private vehicle for medical evaluation.

Deputies say Schreiber was cited for following too closely and failure to reduce speed approaching an intersection.

The Canandaigua Ambulance and New York State Police assisted deputies and the Canandaigua Fire Department – who were first on-scene.
