Sheriff: Hornell woman stole upwards of $30K from another person over months

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that a Hornell woman is in custody on felony charges after stealing upwards of $30,000 from another person over a course of months.

Allard says Carrieann M. Gilliam, 37, of Hornell is accused of stealing $30,523 from December 2017 until July 2018. The money was stolen from another person in the Village of Canisteo.

It’s further alleged that she failed to report that income as required when she completed a recertification for benefits from the Steuben County Department of Social Services.

As result, she also got $759 she wasn’t entitled to receive.

She was charged with third-degree grand larceny and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing. All of the charges are felony counts.

The charges will be answered at a later date.
