One of the four people charged in the death of an Ontario woman, as part of a plot to collect insurance money, has been sentenced to 20 years to life behind bars.
Knowledge Couser pleaded guilty in August in the death of Julie Martin. He was sentenced in the case Thursday morning in Wayne County Court.
Last year, deputies say Couser and Martin’s own daughter Jasmine Harlee were the masterminds of a plot to kill Martin.
As part of the plan, prosecutors said Couser recruited his brother Davontae Devine to kill Martin. Devine in turn enlisted Malquan Drayton to help.
Investigators say Harlee and Couser planned to collect $30,000 in life insurance following Martin’s death which would be split between Devine and Drayton.
On February 1, deputies say Devine and Drayton ambushed Martin at her home and suffocated her with a pillow.
