Courts: ‘Dangerous pedophile’ sentenced for attempted sexual assault of child in Canandaigua

An Ontario County man was sentenced to state prison for first degree attempted sex abuse of a minor that took place at a Main Street business in Canandaigua back in February.

On Tuesday, 52-year-old David Shutz appeared in court along with his attorney Kevin Karnyski as court reports presented Shutz as a “high risk and dangerous pedophile”.

According to court testimony Ontario County probation stated in their report Shutz is a “dangerous pedophile” and an additional counseling report stated that he is a ’high risk and a danger to the community.”

Shutz was sentenced by Ontario County Judge Brian Dennis to 3 1/2 years in state prison and 10-years of post release supervision.

“The root cause is alcoholism,” said Karnyski, who stated his client had a high B.A.C at the time of the incident. “It’s my hope he gets the help he needs.”
