Cornell and Jimmy Boeheim lose to Colgate

Jimmy Boeheim caught the ball near the free throw line, considered his Colgate defender and decided to put the ball on the floor.

He switched the ball to his left (dominant) hand, breezed to the rim, finished and was fouled.

For Boeheim, the Cornell sophomore, that one play epitomized what he’s been working on since last season.

“The shot clock was going down. I had a bigger guy on me and I just decided to try him out,” Boeheim said. “I got a step on him and just finished.”

Cornell lost to Colgate 73-57 in a battle of two future Syracuse basketball opponents. Boeheim, the oldest son of Jim and Juli, scored eight points on 4-of-9 shooting. He played 22 minutes. He collected two rebounds, had an assist and blocked a shot.
