Former town Supervisor Sam Casella was elected president of the New York Association of Conservation Districts at the organization’s annual meeting last month in Cazenovia, Madison County.
The association unifies the directors of local soil and water districts statewide, and serves as a platform for relationships, networking, advocacy, training and education. The annual meeting also includes discussion of the organization’s issues and concerns along with a vote on the annual budget.
Casella, a farmer representing the Ontario County Soil & Water Conservation District, will be the association’s president for 2019. He will replace Dan Farrand of Steuben County, the current president.
During the meeting, Megan Webster — an employee of Ontario County Soil & Water — received the association’s commendation award.
