Honeoye great grandmother claims she stole jewelry to pay for funeral

A great-grandmother told the court she did not have the means to pay for her daughter’s funeral, so she had to resort to crime to cover the expenses.

Mary Boyd, 75, of Honeoye pled guilty to third degree grand larceny for stealing a ring worth approximately $8K while working as a cleaning lady. Police say she then turned around and sold it to a pawn shop.

“I needed the money,” said Boyd to Ontario County Court Judge Brian Dennis. “My daughter passed away last October. I needed the money for her funeral.”
