LATEST: Bomb threat in Penn Yan last week was a hoax

Penn Yan Police responded Thursday, Dec. 13 to the Best Western Hotel on Brown St. for a reported bomb threat made by email.

Friday, Police Chief Thomas Dunham stated, “The threat appeared to be part of a nationwide hoax/scam to threaten businesses in an attempt to gain money via online crypto currency. Various businesses, schools, and hospitals across the country received similar threats yesterday, and all appear to NOT be credible.”

The PYPD did contact other area businesses to make them aware of the threats and to call police if they received one.

“While this incident was not credible,” says Dunham, “police urge people to remain vigilant and to call (911 or PYPD at 315-536-4426) if they see suspicious activity or receive threats.”
