Auburn city council gives green light to property tax settlements

The Auburn City Council unanimously voted to authorize three property tax assessment settlements Thursday.

The authorizations will allow Auburn Assistant Corporation Counsel Nate Garland to accept settlement offers from three separate companies regarding the tax assessments of their Auburn properties. None of the settlements result in the city refunding the companies.

Xylem, Inc., owner of 1 Goulds Dr., petitioned a $5,750,000 assessment on its more or less than 300,000-square-foot property for 2017 and 2018. The petitioner proposed a reduction set to $2,250,000, however the settlement reached calls for a revised 2018 assessment of $5,200,000, while the tax assessment for 2017 remains unchanged.

Property at 188 Grant Ave., owned by Nelson Associates, Inc., was given a tax assessment of $2,790,000 in 2017 and an assessment of $2,541,700 in 2018. The petitioner requested the 2018 assessment be adjusted to $2,200,000. The settlement reached will reduce the properties 2019 tax assessment to $2,200,000, while the 2017 and 2018 assessments remain unchanged. This property’s assessed value will not change for the next three years.
