Wells College Book Arts Center announces 2019 Summer Institute

The Wells College Book Arts Center has announced that its 2019 Summer Institute will take place July 14 through July 27, 2019. During the Summer Institute, renowned instructors and artists will gather on the Wells campus in Aurora to offer courses in a variety of techniques relating to paper, printing and textual arts.

Once again, the institute will include 12 courses—six offered during each weeklong session. Both sessions are filled with intensive, hands-on instruction and practice as well as time to relax and enjoy the College’s scenic location on Cayuga Lake. Attendees will choose one course per week. Tuition for each weeklong class is $1,000; on-campus accommodations and meals are available for an additional fee. All registrations received by Jan. 15, 2019, will receive a $100 discount for tuition. Follow this link to register online.

  • Kyle Holland – Creative Papermaking Processes: Positive and Negative Stenciling
  • Rob LoMascolo – Polymer Printing on the Heidelberg
  • Scott Moore – New Wood Type Production using Historic Methods and Modern Machines
  • Joanne Price – Wood Engraving: Historic Letterpress Illustration

Week 2: July 21–27, 2019

  • Michael and Winnie Bixler – Monotype Type Casting
  • Nancy Callahan – Books That Expand and Contract
  • Patrick Griffin – Digital Font Making: A Crash Course for the Ravers
  • Radha Pandey – Japanese Paper Making and Natural Dyeing
  • Steve Pittelkow – Paper Marbling and Cartonnage: Beyond Square and Rectangle
  • Brad Vetter – Lasers and Letterpress
