Highway crews work to clear ice from Thruway bridge pier (photo)

Snow, rain, ice, freezing temperatures, then moderating temperatures (again).

Those events, particularly when they’re in that order – can cause headaches for road crews.

On Thursday, the Syracuse Division Highway Maintenance crew was out using a long reach excavator to remove debris and ice build-up at a pier near exit 42 along the New York State Thruway.

It’s the bridge that carries the Thruway over the Canandaigua Outlet. The Thruway Authority said it would help alleviate potential ice dams and flooding concerns in the area.
