More than 7,800 tickets issued by police in New York over Super Bowl weekend

State police arrested 139 people and issued 7,891 tickets during a statewide impaired driving crackdown over Super Bowl weekend.

Between Feb. 2 and Feb. 4, state police increased patrols and held sobriety checkpoints, according to a news release from the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

A total of 139 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated and police investigated 456 crashes, including one fatality, and 67 crashes that caused injuries.

“Super Bowl weekend is one of the most popular events of the year but we want New Yorkers to enjoy it responsibly and we have zero tolerance for reckless or impaired driving,” Cuomo said in the news release. “These numbers show our efforts to aggressively enforce the law to keep our roads safe are working, and I commend the State Police for their dedication to protecting the lives of New Yorkers during this campaign and throughout the rest of the year.”
