Wayne County’s principle airport is set to roll on a $1.3 million improvement project.
On Tuesday, the Williamson-Sodus Airport took care of the final step in the project — an endorsement by the Wayne County Board of Supervisors.
The airport, owned by the Williamson Flying Club, received about $1.1 million in the state’s Aviation Capital Grant Program in 2017, sharing in $20.5 million statewide.
“These things took time,” said Greg Arserio, the airport’s director, explaining to supervisors why the project has yet to start.
With the endorsement by supervisors, the airport, which allows public access, can begin building an additional hangar, said Arserio, who spoke at the meeting along with airport manager Mike Bjerga.
The Williamson Flying Club is investing about $200,000 toward the new hangar, Arserio said.
