Seminar planned for prospective school board members

Have you been thinking about running for your board of education? Do you wonder how much time it takes?

Do you want to know more about what a board member does? The answers to these questions and more will be the subject of a “Seminar for Prospective School Board Members” on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 8:45 a.m. until noon at the Four County School Boards Association Offices located on the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Regional Support Center Campus at 131 Drumlin Court, Newark, NY in the Maple Building.

This year, all school board members will be elected on May 21. Candidates for boards of education must file their nominating petitions at least 30 days prior to the election (20 days for small cities). This seminar will help potential school board candidates and the public-at-large understand the role and responsibilities of school board service.

A school board candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, able to read and write, a district resident for one year prior to election, and not employed by the school district or related to a current member of the board of education.
