Deadline extended for Habitat applications in Yates

Yates County Habitat for Humanity has extended the deadline for prospective families or individuals to apply for the next house to be started in the near future. Due to inclement weather the night of last month’s informational meeting, it was decided to extend the date and hold a second informational night at 7 p.m. Monday, March 11 in the Great Room of the First Baptist Church of Penn Yan. It will be a time for information and questions answered regarding how to become a partner family with Habitat. The deadline for applications to be returned will be extended to March 31.

Home ownership is valued, and working side-by- side with the local Habitat volunteers, you can obtain this for you and your family with a low monthly mortgage that includes both taxes and insurance.

An average mortgage is between $500 and $600 a month. The requirements for being accepted are: a need for house, be unable to purchase through a bank loan, enough income to pay for a house at cost, be willing to partner with volunteers while building your house and others, must earn a minimum of $1,700 per month and must have reasonable credit rating with no outstanding judgments or collections.

Yates County Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to making affordable decent housing for those in need a matter of conscience and action. Habitat works in partnership with people in need throughout the world, building simple decent shelter that is sold to them at no profit. Funds and building materials are donated by individuals, churches, corporations, and other organizations sharing the common goal.
