Man escapes serious injury after car-train collision in Yates County

Deputies say a 74-year-old Yates County resident avoided serious injury after his car collided with a Finger Lakes Railway Train on Thursday.

Deputies say Thomas Goodall, 74, of Maple Drive was traveling west on Maple Drive toward Route 14, and attempted to cross the railroad tracks. The collision forced his car off the road and down an embankment.

He was taken to Geneva General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

First responders from the West Lake Road and Bellona fire departments were on-scene. The Penn Yan Ambulance and Finger Lakes Ambulance also assisted.

The Chronicle-Express reports that Goodall was treated and released.
