Branchport man accused of stabbing, beating mother to death won’t stand trial

The Branchport man accused of stabbing and beating his mother to death was ruled unable to stand trial on Tuesday.

In Yates County Court Judge Jason Cook ruled Tuesday that Paul Khouzam, 38, of Branchport be committed to a secure mental health facility so that he can undergo treatment.

Cook’s ruling was based on a pair of evaluations on Khouzam’s mental health.

Until this point, Khouzam has been incarcerated at the Yates County Jail, and faced murder, burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, and aggravated cruelty to animal charges.

Khouzam’s mother, Dr. Magda Daoud, who was attacked last summer in a gruesome incident died from her injuries two months later in a hospital.
