Rochester Folk Art Guild artisans at East Hill Farm, 1445 Upper Hill Road, Middlesex, will welcome the public to their craft studios and the East Hill Gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 11 and 1 to 5 p.m. May 12.
Visitors will have the chance to see recent Guild creations in the workshops, visit with the artists and peek into the gallery. The Book Room has a new selection of books for all ages.
The East Hill Gallery showcases eco-printed and hand-dyed accessories and home goods using avocados, eucalyptus, onion skins and leaves of all types. Craftswomen from the Natural Fiber Clothing Designs Studio created silk scarves, women’s clothing, lavender-filled sachets, eye pillows, note cards, pillows, table runners and napkins.
Potters are working with a low fire earthenware that is wheel thrown, carved, burnished and fired using a small brick kiln with sawdust as the fuel. The results vary from rich black to tan or white, depending on the sawdust. Lining the shelves of the Pottery Studio are bowls, mugs, teapots, casserole dishes, plates, platters, planters, Ikebana containers, vases and pitchers.
