State DOT workers will pick up roadside trash for Earth Day

Employees of the state Department of Transportation will be picking up trash along roads across New York to mark Earth Day.

April 22 is celebrated as Earth Day. DOT officials say on Monday the agency’s workers from every region of New York will be volunteering their time to collect and dispose of litter along roads, highways and other locations.

State, county and Rochester city agencies will be picking up trash along the Inner Loop for most of the work day on Monday.

The Inner Loop will be closed to traffic in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers coming in from 490 must exit at State Street.

News10NBC got in contact with DOT officials who tell us trash on the roads are an ongoing issue.

Last year, the so-called Earth Day “Trash Blitz” resulted in more than 9,200 bags of garbage collected by DOT employees.
