A computer and a bottle of water were placed in the spot last night where the late John Greco sat on City Council, representing the Sixth Ward.
They were placed there, according to City Clerk Lori Guinan, in the event Council appointed someone to take the seat, vacant since Greco died on Feb. 28.
They weren’t needed.
Council has a 5-3 Democratic majority, but Democrat Angelina Marino sided with the Republicans as they deadlocked 4-4 on two successive resolutions to fill the job — first with Democrat Juanita Aikens and then with John Pruett, a Libertarian endorsed by the city Republican Committee.
Hovering over the issue were the politics behind it: that putting one or the other on Council would give that person an edge during in this November’s election.
“Shame on you, Angelina!” yelled resident Jim Meaney after Marino’s decision to vote with Republicans Paul D’Amico, Gordy Eddington and Mayor Ron Alcock in the two votes.
