Business owners prepare for potential flooding in Fair Haven

How is Fair Haven preparing for possible flooding as Lake Ontario continues to rise?

Mayor James Basile said the water level is up 14 inches from 10 days ago and on the cusp of hitting flood level.

“We feel nervous you know, we kind of feel like uh not again,” owner of Little Sodus Inn Lisa Evankovich said.

Little Sodus Inn in Fair Haven overlooks the bay. Evankovich said she gets anxious as she looks at the water level.

Evankovich said she does not want the flooding that happened in 2017 to happen again.

“Oh my. We would come out every day and look and pile up sand bags so it wouldn’t come into the bar and we were just holding out breathe,” Evankovich said.

Mayor Basile of Fair Haven said he has been very frustrated that the lake level has risen.
