Evacuation order lifted after ‘significant’ gas line break in Moravia

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a ‘significant’ natural gas line break has occurred in the village of Moravia on Friday.

Officials asked the public to avoid the area during the late-morning and early-afternoon hours.



Approximately one square mile of the village is impacted by the evacuation order. However, around 1 p.m. it was lifted.

The Moravia Central School District said regents exams continued as planned on Friday. Officials confirmed that the schools were safe.
