Eleven years ago, while visiting family in Boston, Lisa and Chris Hubler’s daughter, Eily, had difficulty breathing. She was just 9 months old.
“She was struggling to get breath in the middle of the night, so I took her outside thinking that would help,” Lisa said. “Two hours later, we ended up rushing her to Boston Children’s Hospital.”
Eily spent two days in the hospital, with her parents and siblings, Ryan and Maren, by her side.
While there, 7-year-old Ryan became fascinated that the nurses and staff used little red wagons to transport children to and from their rooms — with IV drips and all.
When the family returned home to Canandaigua, Ryan decided he wanted to help kids in his own community. It just so happened his October birthday was coming up.
