Deputies: Flooded road conditions led to crash along SR 89

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports on June 20th at 7:34 a.m. deputies responded to a three car personal injury crash along State Route 89 in the Town of Ovid.

Upon investigation it was determined that Melissa Toyryla, 41, of Spencer and a second vehicle operated by Brooke Morsch, 23, of New Jersey were traveling south, but stopped in traffic due to a flooded roadway.

A third vehicle, operated by Hope E. Baird, 64, of Ovid struck the stopped vehicles causing the crash.

Baird and Morsch were checked over and treated by ambulance personnel at the scene. Toyryla was transported to Geneva General Hospital for the complaint of neck pain by South Seneca Ambulance.

All the vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene. Deputies say Baird was issued a ticket for speed not reasonable and will appear in the Ovid Town Court at a later date and time.
