Telemedicine is a rapidly expanding medical service.
The use of telemedicine has almost tripled over the past two years in upstate New York, according to Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield.
“Telemedicine, even though it’s been around for a while, it’s still relatively new technology and I think what’s happened is that there’s greater awareness and there’s a lot more word of mouth and certainly there’s been a lot more promotion,” said Dr. Stephen Cohen, Vice President and Corporate Medical Director for Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Telemedicine allows patients to securely access their doctors online for medical needs – offering convenience.
“I love it,” said parent Danielle Alaimo. “It’s been a game changer. ”
Alaimo, whose son Malcom has seizure disorder and cerebral palsy, began using a telemedicine app last year.
“The app has been really beneficial for that, giving me the ability to contact doctors in real time, get opinions on how to treat, come up with action plans, make appointments next day,” Alaimo said.
