Wood Library 5K generates funds for summer reading

Wood Library’s fifth annual 5K, Fun Run and Story Walk recently generated almost $7,000 for summer youth programs. The Canandaigua event was attended by 153 runners from as far away as Ohio, Kansas and Florida, as well as Rochester and the Finger Lakes.

Melissa Johnson-White, of Fairport, won the 5K with a time of 18 minutes, 53 seconds. John Kohl, of Camillus, was the top 5K male finisher with a time of 19:52. Canandaigua residents Elizabeth Coulliard and Quinn Deutschlander were the top finishers in the Fun Run.

Medals and prizes went to the top 5K finishers in each age group. Several racers completed their first 5K. Library director Jenny Goodemote, of Canandaigua, placed first among Wood Library employees.

“We are fortunate to have the support of many generous sponsors,” Goodemote said. “Their financial contributions make this a profitable fundraiser for the library, and help us offer dozens of fun and enriching programs for youth during the summer months.”
