Nearly 1,000 without power in Geneva after crash shuts down 5&20 near HWS campus

Hamilton Street was closed to traffic in Geneva around 5:30 p.m. due to a crash involving a truck, which also left nearly a thousand homes without power.

Geneva Fire and Police responded to the scene near the Hobart and William Smith College campus on Hamilton Street.

First responders said a utility pole was sheered in half when a truck collided with it.

Witnesses said the driver of the tractor-trailer then backed into a metal fence and brick post along Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ campus on the opposite side of Hamilton Street.

The intersection at Pulteney Street was turned-off and vested personnel were observed rerouting traffic at the hectic crossing.

NYSEG estimated that power would be restored to the entire area by 9:30 p.m.
