Sen. Schumer wants to address teacher shortages in NYS

As students wrap up their first week of school, lawmakers are addressing one important issue that is affecting the classroom: teacher shortages.

According to a report from the New York State United Teachers estimates districts will need to hire 10 to 18 thousand teachers to keep up with the demand.

The same report said the number of students enrolled in teacher education programs across New York State is down nearly 50 percent.

Senator Chuck Schumer was in Syracuse Friday to address the struggle to find teachers in New York State.
