Department of Health says vaping-related illnesses in the state caused by black market THC products

With New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo still fighting the battle against nicotine addiction among young people as a result of vaping and flavored e-cigarettes, the state’s health commissioner is now confirming that “just about all” of the vaping related illnesses in the state are from THC black market products and *not nicotine.

Both Cuomo and the commissioner agree that teen nicotine use is an epidemic, but the Department of Health says that’s not what is killing people, like one recent death of a 17-year-old in the Bronx, and 125 pulmonary illnesses statewide.

“There are two separate issues,” said Dr. Howard Zucker, Commissioner of the Department of Health. “We need to make sure our kids are not getting addicted to these products, and we also need to find the source of the problem that has caused so many deaths in the country.”
