A look at the convicted killer who wreaked havoc on a community in Wayne County

Over the last several weeks News10NBC has been going inside the chilling case of the double murder in Sodus. Last week, we focused on the mastermind, Charlene Childers. Now, we zero in on the shooter, Tim Dean.

Dean went from a police chief to a convicted killer. Prosecutors say he shot and killed a young couple in Sodus in October 2018, and it was all for his wife, Charlene Childers.

“Tim Dean, ultimately, is a coward,” said Wayne County Assistant District Attorney Christine Callanan. “He shows up and kills for his wife but will run and flee.”

The victims were Josh Niles and Amber Washburn. Josh was the father of two of Charlene’s children. When Tim was charged with abusing his own child, Charlene lost custody of her kids to Josh. That’s when Tim and Charlene came up with a plan to get the kids back.
