First responders from Ontario, Monroe respond to alpaca farm fire
It took first responders from two counties, but the structure fire at the Lazy Acre Alpacas property along Baker Road in West Bloomfield was extinguished.
First responders were called to the scene at 8830 Baker Road around 2:30 p.m. The fire, which started in the attic of a home on the property – was not extinguished until a little after 5 p.m.
No residents or alpaca were hurt as result of the fire. However, one firefighter sustained minor injuries, according to the Messenger Post, who spoke to Fishers Fire District Chief Dan Chapman, who was commanding the response.
First responders from Ionia and West Bloomfield were the first to arrive on-scene. However, departments from both Ontario and Monroe counties responded to the scene and provided support through mutual aid requests.
First responders said that Baker Road was temporarily shut down while crews battled the blaze. Investigation into the fire remains active.
