Lawsuit claims former Auburn doctor caused patient death at hospital

A medical malpractice lawsuit says a former Auburn doctor caused a patient’s death, according to Syracuse.com.

The lawsuit filed in state Supreme Court in Cayuga County says Robert E. Pratt, who was 66-years-old at the time, died on November 1st, 2018 due to the actions of Dr. Jeremy Barnett.

The suit alleges that Dr. Barnett failed to properly treat him for pneumonia, atrial fibrillation, and other medical problems.

Identified in the suit as defendants are the hospital, top management officials at the hospital, and some members of the hospital’s board of trustees.

Barnett, an intensive care unit doctor, was accused of being reckless and providing poor care in lawsuits filed earlier this year by two former Auburn Community Hospital doctors, according to Syracuse.com. One of those lawsuits even alleges that the hospital turned a blind-eye to complaints about Dr. Barnett.

The state cited the hospital for not properly investigating 33 complaints by hospital employees.
