Macy’s announces closures, but local stores spared for now

Retail is struggling. At least the brick-and-mortar type.

Department stores across the U.S. posted disappointing results for the 2019 holiday season, according to As result, stores like Kohl’s, J.C. Penney, and Macy’s are reacting.

Macy’s announced a series of closings – 125 of them to be exact – over the next three years. Some of those stores are already in the process of shutting down.

While the full-list hasn’t been updated or released by the company – neither location in the Rochester-area was included. Locations in the Syracuse-area also appeared safe.

The company said that closures were going to be limited to the worst performers across the business.
