Wegmans, Tops limiting hand sanitizer purchases at stores due to shortage

Tops and Wegmans are pumping the brakes on large purchases of hand sanitizer.

Both have placed restrictions on purchases.

It’s created a shortage, which has prompted stores like Wegmans to put a limit on how much hand sanitizer can be bought at once.

Tops says a similar policy is rolling out.

13WHAM-TV reports that Tops sent the following statement to their newsroom:

“Many manufacturers and suppliers of hand sanitizers, soaps, and cleaners do not have much available product to ship at this time. We are working with all of the affected supplier partners on an hourly basis in an effort to re-fill our supply chain and our stores. All product we receive on a daily basis from these manufacturers is being shipped to our stores immediately but we do not believe that it will keep pace with the current customer demand for the foreseeable future. We are currently limiting hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to three (3) per customer to allow as much available inventory for our customers as possible.”

Wegmans has similarly put a purchase limit of three per customer.
