By the end of 2021, the superintendent who has led the Port Byron Central School District since 2004 will retire.
Neil O’Brien will retire in December 2021, as principal Mike Jorgensen succeeds him in the post.
The Citizen reports that O’Brien took steps to help the district prepare. He didn’t renew a contract in 2016, and let the Board of Education know they should start planning last year.
Looking internally was the right, and easy move, according to Paul Ryan, the school board’s president. “It was easy to see that internally we have a perfect candidate,” he told The Citizen.
