Regents scrapped, but students will have to pass classes

The State Education Department canceled the requirement for students to take the state Regents exam in order to graduate Tuesday after announcing on Monday that the June Regents exams were canceled.

It was a huge relief to families that wondered what students would be required to do.

Educators say students will still be properly evaluated, and that passing grades will be necessary, but that preparing for a test would have been unrealistic.

The Regents exams scheduled for August have not been cancelled yet.
