Syracuse Crunch signs college hockey’s tallest player to AHL deal

The Syracuse Crunch has made a potentially very big addition to the middle of its offense.

The Crunch announced on Tuesday that it has signed center Nikita Pavlychev to a one-year AHL contract. Listed at 6-foot-8, 225 pounds during his playing career at Penn State, he was the tallest player in college hockey last year.

Pavlychev, 23, skated in 27 games with PSU last season, posting seven goals and seven assists. He played in 137 career games with Penn State from 2016 to 2020, registering 70 points (36-34). He finished his collegiate career with the Nittany Lions ranking fifth all-time with 12 power-play goals.
