Deputies ask for public’s help after man tried to lure 4-year-old into truck in Skaneateles

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports that it’s investigating an incident where an unidentified man tried to lure a 4-year-old into his truck in the town of Skaneateles.

It happened on Monday around 6:30 p.m. on Van Camp Road. The person of interest in the case is identified as a white male, in his 30s or 40s, who was driving a dark-colored pickup truck.

The truck is said to have stopped near the child’s home. The operator spoke with the child, but when the child’s mother approached the vehicle, that person sped off.

“The Sheriff’s Office encourages parents to remind their children that they should not talk to strangers or get into any vehicle if they are approached by someone that they do not know,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement to press. “Parents are also asked to remind their children to immediately report to an adult, parent, teacher or administrator if they are approached by a stranger and to call 911.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 315-435-3051.
