Public health officials in Schuyler County say five new cases of COVID-19 were identified on Tuesday.
Three of those cases came from the Watkins Glen Central School District.
Officials noted that all of the students were from the same household, and only one attended school while potentially contagious.
Contact tracing efforts are underway, according to health officials.
Earlier in the week, Superintendent Greg Kelahan said in a letter to parents that more positives would not make it easier to keep progress moving forward in the district.
“Many schools in our region have found it necessary to close their school buildings completely in order to stop the spread and to increase their cleaning and sanitizing efforts,” he said in the letter. “We have not had need to close our building – we will remain vigilant in our district, but we need everyone’s help.”
