Canandaigua city councilor, downtown business owner remembered after unexpected passing

The City of Canandaigua reports the unexpected passing of at-large Councilor Robert O’Brien.

O’Brien had been elected in 2015 and owned a business on Main Street.

His shop Good Life Tea was a staple downtown, according to residents.

No additional information about his passing or funeral arrangements had been publicized.

The Canandaigua Business Improvement District released the following statement:

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Robert O’Brien, owner of Good Life Tea in Downtown Canandaigua. Rob was a well respected business owner, as well as a great ambassador for our community and small businesses.

Robert was often seen engaging with community members, tourists and fellow business owners, eager to help anyone in need with social media or marketing assistance. While running one of the area’s most popular businesses, he also served as a City Councilman and strong advocate for green initiatives and supporting local. His wealth of knowledge and passion for his business was sought after by many.

Robert had previously held a business owner seat on the BID Board as well as actively participating on subcommittees whenever available. His kindness, presence and dedication to our community will be greatly missed. Our Sincere condolences to his family, fellow Council members and Good Life Tea employees.
